Blog Eight – Final Evaluation of Assessment Piece
Has the stimulus and message come across successfully in the piece?
Personally, I do feel we have achieved our stimulus message
really well, and from an audience interpretation I think we have created vivid
imagery throughout the piece and specific movements that would suggest our stimulus
and the message we are trying to convey. For example, we directly re created
the visual of a brain that was taken straight from our stimulus image by
creating a formation that moved and breathed as one as we performed small movements
in unison as one close unit. This image was reimplemented again later on as we
again created a close group formation before taking two breaths at the same time stepping out
creating a visual of one whole moving breath, which I think would have been a
really clear image for the audience to show this piece was about something that
happens inside the brain. We also incorporated movements such as the hand
crawling up the side of the body suggesting the negative thoughts taking over
this motif was developed and resonated throughout the piece as we then repeated
the movement but this time with both hands crawling up the body suggesting the increase of emotions spiralling out of control.
Do you think you are developing your own choreographic
style?
Yes, over this choreographic process I feel I have become
more able to take different techniques inspired by various practitioners and
activities partaken in class to create and begin choreographing more efficiently.
Where as before I may have just improvised until I created something I liked, I
now know more effectual techniques that can help me begin creating my own choreography.
For example the Merce Cunningham 'chance technique', Wayne McGregor’s word
technique in which he creates shapes and movements by thinking about particular
words, or even thinking of the five senses and imagining different scenarios
are great ways for me to start thinking about choreographing.
What would you say has been your strengths and weaknesses?
Throughout the choreographic process I feel my strengths have
been; being able to listen to others ideas and contribute my own effectively and
clearly. I also feel I have been able to visualise other peoples ideas well and
pick up their choreography quickly. On the other hand in terms of weaknesses I think
one big thing would be learning the counts of the music for the pieces I am
teaching as this would be more effective for when we came to cleaning and
refining the piece and would be more time efficient.
I love your Blog it is super clear and you make it easy for the reader to read as it is set out so well. I think to improve it would be great if you could include some strengths and weakness of the group, ie did the whole group struggle with counts? hope this helps. :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Ell, thankyou so much for your feedback! I haven't included the groups weaknesses due to the limited word count, however I have included the point about the group as a whole needing to make counts clear when teaching in a previous blog :)
