Blog Eight – Final Evaluation of Assessment Piece

Has the stimulus and message come across successfully in the piece? Personally, I do feel we have achieved our stimulus message really well, and from an audience interpretation I think we have created vivid imagery throughout the piece and specific movements that would suggest our stimulus and the message we are trying to convey. For example, we directly re created the visual of a brain that was taken straight from our stimulus image by creating a formation that moved and breathed as one as we performed small movements in unison as one close unit. This image was reimplemented again later on as we again created a close group formation before taking   two breaths at the same time stepping out creating a visual of one whole moving breath, which I think would have been a really clear image for the audience to show this piece was about something that happens inside the brain. We also incorporated movements such as the hand crawling up the side of the body suggesting the negativ...

Blog Seven - Analysis of second choreography by chosen influence of practitioner

‘Chroma’ by – Wayne McGregor My personal idea of the stimulus and the choreographers intention – My first initial reaction to the piece is I thought McGregor was trying to portray the difference in culture, ethnicity, and race. As the piece begins with a group of different individuals walking through a lit up rectangle at the back of the stage, they disperse leaving one individual female as she performs a short solo as the male dancer stands behind the rectangle watching from a distance. After a while the man walks through the rectangle and joins the female in a duet. From researching further I found another interview with McGregor. He says there is not always a clear meaning to his work and his input of the meaning in combination with the audiences interpretation is what creates the richness of his works. He further explains how the audience ha...

Far - By Wayne McGregor -                                                                                  (StudioWayneMcGregor, 2012) (Guardian Music, 2011) My personal idea of the stimulus the choreographer is trying to show -   My first initial thoughts were the dancers appeared animal like with unusual, unpredictable, movements. As they began communicating and interacting with each other it reminded me of cave men and humans first meeting with each other. Tension is then built up in the music from which sounded to me like a constant heart beat and lights flash lighting up different points of the stage...

Blog Five - Problems and Solutions within the choreographic process

Image
What problems have you encountered so far through the choreographic process and how have they been resolved? One problem in rehearsals was pathways and spacing. This occurred within 'the emotions' section in which no one was filling the left half of the stage. We resolved this by having the people travelling to that side including myself space out more, so I adapted my movements to be bigger to travel across the stage more. We also had an issue with pathways in the fourth section the 'bad memory' this problem caused collisions and occurred between Jess, Taylor, Olivia, and myself. This was because I was too far over to the left for the section before and did not have enough time to travel to the other side for the bad memory. To resolve this we changed the formation of the good memory so I swapped positions to be closer to where I needed to travel. Another problem we faced was we never had an outside view as everyone was performing in the piece. For example for one part...

What choreographic devices have you chosen to use, and h as using one choreographic device helped you to develop an idea into something else?   Section Five - 'The Split' -   ‘The Split' aims to show the tension building up as the two personalities begin to clash, I plan to split the group in two and perform the same motif in unison . At the end of my section I wish to have the two groups collide, creating a clear visual for the audience of the personalities clashing as we run towards each other crossing pathways, showing the mental collision of the personalities inside the brain.  I wanted to use repetition to show the build, however I was unsure what I wanted the movement to be. I researched choreographer, Wayne McGregor and used his method of creating choreography from a word. I chose the word 'fight' and began creating lines and shapes that as a result gave me nice contrasting angles, lines and curves. I also thought of the colour of the word being red to ad...
