Blog Three - Choreographic Devices and Developing Material

Image
 -  What choreographic devices have you chosen to use?    Before working on any choreography, we did class activities allowing us to explore ways of developing ideas from different stimuluses. One example is we split up into groups and were given a picture stimulus, I have attached the one I was given below. We discussed our initial ideas and found new ideas developed from our individual thoughts. Concluding the image represented two sides of the brain, the creative side expressed through the splashes of colour and the academic side shown through the equations and monochrome colours. In terms of choreographic devices we used mirroring showing the two sides of the brain and we used action and response to interpret how the brain works as the brain sends signals and the body reacts. This helped me explore ways of creating material and was passed through into our assessment piece really well. When we began choreographing we took this idea to represent th...

Blog Two - Structure, Process, and ideas for choreography

Image
1.) What is the current structure of your piece, and how have you come to these decisions? - We took a vote on music and chose 'Blood Stream' by Tokyo Myers.' This was my personal recommendation, as when researching I found a person with DID usually has two or more personalities with one core personality, (Multiple Personality Disorder: Causes, Symptoms, Diagnosis, Treatment, 2016) this reminded me of ‘Blood Stream’ as it has a gentle repetitive melody that resonates throughout the track perhaps representative of the core personality, however is built up adding in instruments and speeding up the tempo. Resulting in a build of tension symbolic of the other personalities and emotions taking over. I felt this music choice would helping bring our point and intention of the piece across in the choreography in relation to the music. 2.) What was the Process and Development? -  After analysing the calmness, tension and climax, we noted time stamps when the music changes or new ...

Blog One - Stimulus Assessment

Image
What does the stimulus say to you? -  We were given a variety of picture stimuluses, and decided on a majority vote of the one we were most drawn to. The one we ended up choosing was an image of a brain central, surrounded by many different emoji’s connected by sharp direct lines, with a block red background. My personal interpretation was the emojis reminded me of social media and the connection the brain could suggest the overwhelming emotions that come with the use of social media. Although there are some positive aspects of social media such as, it gives people a voice and allows self-expression, it connects us and can power social change, the negative impacts cannot be ignored. (HMA, 2017) What will be the message you are portraying from your stimulus? In class we mind mapped around the stimulus, the things it provoked us each as individuals to think about. In terms of a message, and potential movement ideas for the choreography we discussed a few ideas such as; a crowded ...
